What gets hidden on your passport

  • Passport number
  • Machine-readable zone (MRZ)
  • File number
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Name (optional)
  • Parents' and spouse's names (optional)
  • Place of birth (optional)
  • Photo (optional)

Ticked fields are covered as soon as your file opens. Tick or untick any of them, or draw a box over anything else.

How it works

  1. Drop a photo, scan or PDF of your passport above.
  2. Its text is read on your device, and the fields you ticked are covered with solid boxes.
  3. Check the result, then download a safe copy. The file is checked again for anything still readable.

Questions

What is the MRZ and why hide it?

The machine-readable zone is the block of text with <<< characters. It repeats your name, passport number and date of birth, so covering the printed fields alone is not enough.

Is the scan uploaded?

No. Your passport is processed inside the browser and never leaves your device.
